Claudia Trofimov

Top artist from Eastern Europe, contemporary artist

The activity of drawing took me on a journey of freedom and relaxation. Having the willingness to experiment more in this sense, I started painting courses in a visual arts studio. This experience provided me with the opportunity to enter a whole new world, during which time I also had an exhibition of oil paintings.

My personal painting techniques are about balance, calibrating the amount of paint in the proper paintbrush, in order to control the drop of colors into desired shape.

The Delicate Art: Capturing Beauty on Silk

I have a bachelor’s degree in Economics, with almost 12 years of experience within the banking sector. Being an artist at heart, the corporate environment was not the most suitable place for me. As a means of escape, I used to draw very detailed and intuitive artworks in ink during my spare time. This is how I started creating art.

The moment I became the mother of my great son, I was determined to change my path completely. Not only because I was very passionate about painting, but also because I wanted to be physically present in my child’s life as much as possible. I started my journey by starting to follow painting classes at the Art School in Bucharest, where I experimented with many painting styles and techniques. During this time, I had the opportunity to paint on a vintage silk garment. This unexpectedly sparked my interest in the genre and eventually inspired me to develop my own silk painting techniques.

Speed is one of the most important aspects of silk painting. The paint dries quickly when the delicate surface of the silk is touched by a paintbrush. Therefore, it requires patience and attention in the accuracy of brush strokes as mistakes cannot be erased or repaired. Working with sensitive silk is a serendipitous process. Thus, each painting turns out to be unique.

Silk painting is a self-learning process and requires continuous exploration. I am always amazed by the extraordinary capacity of expression that I have while painting on natural silk and by the fact that light gives vibrant life and a lot more eloquence to hand-painted silk.
